Cat5e: Structured cabling for the masses.

The defining standard that most company’s still have installed for their premises and needs. Formally defined in 2001and offering up to 1000BASE-T, Cat5e is still the market leader, accounting for approximately 60% of the installations in today’s business world. Cat 6: The next level.

This cable standard provides performance of up to 250 MHz and is suitable for 10BASE-T / 100BASE-TX and providing 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet). With installations as wide ranging as: Bank of America (Nation Wide) roll-out and Fuji film. Cablelink have made this category of structured cabling part of our extensive portfolio of successfully installed products. Cat 6 structured cabling has far higher stringent installation protocols than Cat 5e and therefore requires a higher level of expertise. Cat6a: The future is here!

The growing need for faster data transmission and stable performance across a wider frequency range has given rise to Cat 6a and Cat 7. Now ratified, Cat 6a will provide 550 MHz supporting up to 10 Gigabits per second on copper.

Previously designed for server farms, Financial institutions, storage area networks & riser backbones where higher networks capability and network speeds are key, Cat 6a has migrated to the desk top providing all who are ready to accept it, the possibility of faster, better and a more stable network.

Backward compatible with the existing standards, this technology is suitable for industry sectors utilizing high-performance computing platforms to support very high bandwidth and intensive applications.

Cat 7: and beyond

Offering speeds of up to 600MHz and also capable of supporting 10Giga-bit Cat 7 stands alone as a structured cabling system.The major drawback for Cat 7 is backward compatibility. Presently, Cat 7 utilizes sets of connecting hardware, plugs and receptacles known as Terra connectors.

These are quite different from RJ45, which has been the norm through Cat 3, Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat 6 & Cat 6a.This system is also available but then so is fibre.  The comparative cost of each system is roughly the same. ( back to top )

Cablelink have fully trained highly experienced fibre optic engineers, capable of designing and installing any fibre optic requirement that you might have. This includes Single-mode, OM1 – OM2& OM3 fibre optic back bones capable of linking your remote cabinets into the network or fibre to desk creating super fast network connections.

Cablelink engineers are constantly trained and upgraded to keep up with any fibre optic developments insuring the client receives the best level in both support and service. All Multi-mode and single-mode fibre optical cabling is tested to full FDDI, FOIRL and Gigabit specifications; terminating using industry standards ST, SC, FC/PC connectors, or Small Form Factor (SFF) connections such as MTRJ, LC and MU configurations.
